Worldly Wise was created in 2020 after one of our Founder’s, Nick, helped his daughter prepare for her gap year travelling. Nick was worried about her safety and arranged for his daughter and her friend to receive some personal safety training, and develop their awareness of risk and cultural differences.
Following discussions with other parents Nick and Trevel reflected on the wide-ranging challenges young people face when trying to navigate life after leaving school, whether it is employment, further education, travel or general day to day life. Wanting to directly make a difference for young people and using their business network to identify willing volunteers, Worldly Wise was born.
Working with schools, Worldly Wise connects local business volunteers and schools to help deliver their careers and citizenship curriculum. This means students get access to a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience from local business representatives who are keen to support young people prepare for life beyond school. Schools arrange the workshops and activities and invite an Ambassador to visit the school and participate. This could be a mock interview, a CV writing workshop, a Q & A session, a talk on their career experience, advice on preparing for employment or sharing specialist knowledge of a particular business sector or role.
We have a wide range of experience, backgrounds and industries amongst our Ambassadors, all keen to help a generation of young people achieve their dreams.
If you are keen to become an ambassador please contact the Worldly Wise team here
Information for Students
We work with schools across Kent and beyond to help students gain access to local business owners and employees who want to share their life and career experiences to help you. We participate in a range of activities organised by schools such as mock interviews, CV writing workshops, Q & A sessions, talks and presentations and even ‘Dragons Den’ style student presentations.
We know the challenges faced by students trying to decide what path to take post school, whether it’s higher education, employment, apprenticeship or travelling. Sometimes not knowing what path to take can be really confusing and demotivating. Our Ambassadors are available to help by sharing their experiences and support you by developing your confidence and skills. If you would like your school to get involved then please contact your school careers lead and tell them about Worldly Wise!
